Verbal
Battery
This is the only battery which has a strong reliance on knowledge.
In this battery there are three parts:
Verbal Classification
Sentence Completion
Verbal Analogies (Word Relationship)
VOCABULARY IS KEY!!!!
In this training, we focus GREATLY on strengthening your child's lexicon...which in turn helps across the board in their studies.
Quantitative Battery
This battery focuses on pattern identification.
There is some equation solving, but the focus is to see how your child reasons with
numbers and their patterns.
In this battery there are three parts:
Number Analogies
Equation Building
Number Puzzles/Series (Number Patterns)
This is usually the easiest battery for children because they are so analytical at this age, but remember...it is the goal of cogAT to try and confuse your child to see if they are truly gifted.
We focus on pattern recognition with the forms within the order of operations...once they start to think in a non literal form, your child's eyes light up with the "Whoa!!!" we all love to see.
Non-Verbal Battery
This battery focuses on 3-D thinking, as we like to call it.
In this battery there are three parts:
Figure Analogies
Figure Classification
Figure Matrices (Visual/Spatial Reasoning)
We focus on getting your child to think in a mental rotation, multi dimensional, holistic, and spatial reasoning manner.
Children need to mentally "see" the objects fold and unfold, rotate, and flip in their mind to understand how the figure equation is solved.
